an april Tipi Wedding in Devon
I love an April tipi wedding in Devon. A time of year synonymous with new life and renewal so very appropriate for a milestone event such as a wedding. It’s also when we have an abundance of spring blossoms so perfect if you want a natural tipi wedding with some colourful native flora. ‘April showers’ are a misconception as in more recent years April has been a dry month. Shane and I had an April wedding in 2010 and the weather was particularly glorious as it was for Johanna & Michael’s outdoor tipi wedding this April.
Orchard wedding ceremony
They were blessed with beautiful sunshine and their local community orchard in Devon was filled with apple blossom which created the prettiest setting for their humanist ceremony amongst the trees. 150 of their friends and family gathered together to celebrate their marriage and watch them ‘tie-the-knot’ in a special handfasting ceremony conducted by the appropriately named local Celebrant Alison Orchard. Guests sat on haybales covered in brightly coloured rugs and blankets and an arch of white muslin hung beneath an apple tree.
The sunlight glinted off our ivory white tipis and created a beautiful bright space inside for their delicious afternoon wedding breakfast prepared by local chef Eran Hovav. We linked our matching ivory white pagoda tent to the tipis to create a separate but adjoining dining room for the children.
This was very much a family affair with friends and relations of all ages coming together to create a special day for Johanna & Michael. Guests young and old were kept well entertained with bouncy castle, face painting, garden games, a quiz and treasure hunts.
Tipi wedding styling
Their style was natural, relaxed and laid back. Johanna’s bridesmaids and flower girls wore pretty shades of green to compliment the woodland setting and carried seasonal hand-tied bouquets of beautiful multi-coloured blooms made by their neighbour, Lauren of Bluebells & Blossom. Lauren specialises in preserving wedding bouquets through the art of flower pressing. A wonderful wedding keepsake!
The Spring blossoms were also reflected in the gorgeous cake design from Johanna’s cousin, Queen Bee Cakes.
More bright, vivid colours came from handmade bunting and paper decorations and helped to create a very fun and joyful atmosphere inside and out.
This was a particularly special tipi wedding for Tipi Spaces. Our first outing for 2022 and our first wedding! We had a great team of tipi riggers who worked together with great humour to help put the tipis and tents up and build a beautiful wedding venue for Johanna and Michael.
Johanna and Michael chose to have two of our ivory-white stratus tipis and our matching ivory-white square pagoda tent. They also opted for our window walls and Iroko wood double doors which created an impressive entrance into the tipis and also helped retain warmth as the night drew in. We also supplied our standard DandyDuraTM floor matting, indoor fairy lights and outdoor festoon lights. Our sofa, cushions and rugs provided a comfortable outdoor lounge area for guests and our fire pit was a warm, evening focal point.
We helped source trestle tables from Fanfare Event Hire.
The tipis were beautiful and very clean, and created such a cosy and magical atmosphere on the day. They were very professional in all their communications with us, and they really made the whole process go smoothly and without any stress, which is all you can hope for when planning your own wedding. I’d highly recommend them to anyone planning an outdoor event.Johanna & Michael
Our huge thanks to Johanna & Michael and photographer Emma Stoner for their kind permission to share their beautiful photographs of this special day.
